Coed Junior Varsity Wrestling, Coed Varsity Wrestling · AISD District Champions!

All year the Vikings have been improving and growing as wrestlers. Their goals from Day 1 have been simple; Win a District Championship, qualify 2/3 of the team for regionals, 1/3 of the team for state and place as many wrestlers as possible at state. Since August, this team has been working day in and day out to make these goals a reality. Wednesday was step 1, the District Tournament.Your Lanier Vikings went to battle with the rest of AISD at the Burger Center for the 5 A Boys, Girls and JV District Championships!

The Vikings entered 6 JV wrestlers into the tournament (3 boys and 3 girls). The JV wrestlers finished their day strong as all 6 placed in the top 4! The boys JV finished as follows: Adolfo Soto – District Champion, Jaime Gallarado – Runner-Up, and Jesus Sierra – 3rd Place. The girls JV finished as follows: Eboni Washington – District Champion, Skylah Hughes – 3rd Place, and Maryjane Guerra – Runner-Up.

The boys varsity also had a great showing at the AISD District Championships. 7 boys represented the team in the tournament and 5 advanced to the Regional Championships (must place top 4 to advance to regionals).  Senior Captain, Maykel Naranjo (120) lead the way for the Vikings boys finishing the day a District Champion! Nixon Ochoa (113) had a surprisingly strong showing finishing 2nd. Elijah Solano (138) and Roderick Ellison (145) both finished 3rd. Sophomore Captain, Samuel Diaz (132) was the last Viking boy to qualify finishing 4th. The boys left it all on the mat today. We are very pleased with their efforts! Even with the low varsity numbers the Viking Boys finished 6th overall in the District.

Lastly, we have the Lady Vikings. This years DISTRICT CHAMPIONS! The Lady Vikings had a dominating performance at the District Championships. 4 Vikings finished the day as individual District Champions (95) Isabella Llamas, (119) Jamaria Washington, (165) Koda Camrena, and (215) Selena Cordell.

The remaining members of the lady vikings finished as follows: (102) Yulissa Jaimes – 3rd, (110) Leilah Jiminez – 3rd, (128) Jasmine Byson – 2nd, (138) Angie Miranda – 3rd, (148) Kyara Zacarias – 2nd, and (185) Katherine Aguilar – 3rd. ALL lady vikings finished top four and as a result will advance to the Regional Championships!

Game Recap

Lanier was held to a 1-1 draw by Crockett on Monday night. The Vikings struggled to find space in attacking areas and were frustrated by a resolute Crockett team playing with 10 players behind the ball in the first half. The second half started with a period of intense Lanier pressure though capped off by a Shelove Dorsainvil header from Edgar Mejia’s clever flick behind the defense. The Vikings pushed for another goal but were caught out on the break as Felix Santana could not keep a long range effort out of his net.

Vikings News · Lady Vikings Close Regular Season with Senior Night Win

The Lady Viks closed the regular season Friday night with a 46-37 win against the McCallum Knights that brings the Viks their 12th win of the year. Lanier’s 6-6 district record will earn the Lady Viks a spot in the playoffs for the first time in recent history. Friday night’s game will surely be a memory to cherish for the 6 graduating seniors — Jada Stewart, Aniah Edwards, Jachia Christian, Maria Reyes, Zylann Wallace, and Precious Brewer — who played a large role in the historic success of the season.

The Lady Viks outworked the Knights from the opening jump, led by Erica Coleman’s 16 points. Kadasia Duirden (10 points), Zylann Wallace (7 points), Precious Brewer (7 points), Aniah Edwards (4 points), and Maria Reyes (2 points) all filled up the basket.

Come out to see the Viks take on Kerrville Tivy in the Bi-District Playoff Monday, February 13th at AISD’s Burger Center.

Multiple Teams · Lady Vikes Win Again @ Reagan 8-1

The lady Vikings soccer team dominated again with their 2nd straight victory over Reagan high school last night by a score of 8-1. Once again, the team owned possession and dominated their opponent. Superstar sophomore Sammy Mendoza scored two while providing two assists on the night. Diana Ramirez also scored two with a highlight reel header on her first. Kenia Diaz, aka Messi in the making, also put two away. Cindy Moreno, and freshman standout Emily Jaramillo each scored one to put the game away. Leslie Estrada also contributed with an amazing assist from a throw in. As alway, jacqui Chavez was a rock on defense with help from iris sifuentes and iris Aguilar. Great team win!

Please come out and support the ladies as they try to make it 3 in a row on Friday as they take on Crocket High at 7:45 at Noack.

Coed Junior Varsity Wrestling, Coed Varsity Wrestling · Viking Wrestling: Business per Usual

The Lady Vikings regular season came to a close last night, as the Lanier Vikings traveled to Leander Glenn for a single dual. This is the second match up between the Vikings and Grizzlies this season.

The Vikings went to Leander to sharpen up their skills and run people out. They did exactly that! The Lady Vikings wrestled first and put on a show. They were “Business per Usual” as they won 9 out of 10 matches by pin. Outstanding performance by the ladies. They won the dual by a final score of 48-6. The Lady Vikings wrap up their regular season with a dual record of 15-3 overall and undefeated in the District (7-0).

The boys’ varsity team followed up the girls and wrestle some of their best wrestling this season. The boys battled and finished 4-2 on the night. Although the boys did not win the dual because of forfeits, the boys continue to outwrestle opponents they face. In the past three dual matches the boys’ match record is 14-5. We are very proud of the boys that continue to battle and the coaching staff expects big things heading into next week’s District Championships at the Burger Center.

The boys finish their regular season this Saturday as they travel to Smithson Valley to take on the Rangers.

Make sure to wish the boys and girls luck when you see them as they head into the post season!

Thank you Viking Nation.
