Coed Junior Varsity Wrestling, Coed Varsity Wrestling · Seniors finish with a BANG!

Wednesday Night was the final home dual of the season for the Vikings Wrestling Team.

For our Viking Senior Wrestlers, it was their last opportunity to compete in front of a home crowd!

Four senior’s were recognized for their leadership and participation on the Lanier Wrestling Team. These seniors included;  (Captain) Maykel Naranjo, (Captain) Selena Cordell, Elijah Solano, and Adolfo Soto. All four seniors wrestled last night and showed exemplary leadership as they always do.

Four teams were in attendance for last nights quad: Lanier, Austin, Leander Glenn, and the Texas School for the Deaf (TSD).

In the first round Lanier wrestled Austin High School. The girls came out with authority and established their dominance quickly. It was raining pins last night! Winning by a final score of 42-6. The boys followed up the girls with a hard fought match. At one point the Vikings were up 36-18. Austin fought back and the matched finished in a tie. 36-36. The boys have come along way from the start of the season and are really starting to compete!

In the second round Lanier wrestled Leander Glenn. The girls got their final tune up for this weekends “Dual State Championships,” dominating Glenn 42-6. Majority of the girls team went 2-0 on the night. The boys wrestled last and fought hard but came up short. The boys were led by Senior Captain, Maykel Naranjo, who finished the night with two pins!

Next Up for the Vikings:

The Lady Vikings will head to Houston this weekend to take on the best in the state of Texas at the Texas Dual State Championships. The best 16 girls team in the state of Texas will be in attendance.

Wish our Lady Vikings luck as you see them in the next few days!

Thank you Viking Nation!

Vikings News · Lady Viks Beat McCallum Knights 39-36

After a slow start this Tuesday evening, the Lady Viks went into halftime down 8 points. Impressive leadership was displayed by Senior, Aniah Edwards, keeping the team focused through a difficult half and helping to minimize the damage. Led by the relentless defensive hustle of Jada Stewart and Kadasia Duirden the momentum was shifted in the second half and the Viks held the Knights to only 13 points, allowing Lanier to steal the game. The Knights had no answer for Erica Coleman who led all scorers with 22 points. Precious Brewer (7), Kadasia Duirden (4), Aniah Edwards (2), Maria Reyes (2), Jada Stewart (1), and Zylann Wallace (1), all contributed points to the team win. The Viks collected their 8th win of the season and now stand 3-3 in district play. Come see the Viks take on Ann Richards this Friday. The action kicks off at 6:00pm with a JV game followed by 7:00pm for Varsity.

Coed Junior Varsity Wrestling, Coed Varsity Wrestling · Lanier Wrestlers Battle at CENTEX

This past weekend the Lanier Wrestling Team went to battle at the Delco Center once more! This time at one of the best tournaments of the year in Texas… the CENTEX. This tournament is filled with some of the best this state has to offer!

The young boys and girls wrestling teams fought hard! The boys showed some serious growth from the first semester and continue to improve each day!

Senior Captain, Maykel Naranjo was the only placer for the boys and finished 5th. Maykel finished 5-2 this weekend, beating 2 returning state qualifers. Coach Summerfield said, “Maykel is really starting to turn the corner, one small adjustment here and there and Maykel finishes the day 6-1 and finishes 2nd. The sky is the limit for Maykel.”

The Lady Vikings continued there season Friday and Saturday at the CENTEX as well. The Lady Vikings showed some rust, but battled tough. The Lady Vikings finished 8th in the tournament, a bit disappointing for what we have become accustomed too.

There were some Lady Vikings who performed  well. Isabella Llamas and Angie Miranda both finished 2nd for the day and lost tough matches in the finals. Both girls may have wrestled the best they have all year!

Coach Summerfield said, “The girls battled today, some really represented the black and gold well, but as a whole a few of us did not show up ready to wrestle. I can tell you that will NOT happen again. ”

This week the Vikings will host their final home dual of the year on Wednesday at 6:30pm. The Vikings wrestle Austin High School and Leander Glenn.

Come out and support your Vikings! See ya’ll Wednesday.
