Playing an early 5:00pm game the Lanier Vikings were hungry for their first win of the 2018 season. A lightning delay minutes from the coin toss held both teams in locker rooms, but once the rain passed and the all clear was given the Vikings swarmed the field in impressive fashion. Junior Victor Herrera returns the opening kickoff to get things rolling for the Viks. It was a night in the ground for the Vikings with 2 Running Backs surpassing the 100 yard mark. Senior Khile Shores had 138 yds on 8 carries and Junior Jaimron Monroe had 159 yds on 6 carries. Also carrying the ball for the Viks Junior Taylor with 66 yds on 2 carries and Habraham Arellano 33 yds on 5 carries. Senior WR Colby Francis had a a 10 yard reception for a touchdown to help seal a first lead. Scoring on the night was Junior Junius Taylor 1 TD-Rush, Senior Khile Shores 1 TD-Rush, Junior Victor Hererra 1 TD-Kickoff Return, Junior Jaimron Monroe 3 TD-Rush, and Colby Francis 1 TD-Reception. The Viking defense flew around all night forcing four fumbles and recovering two, holding the Eastside offense to 0 points. Coach Hayhurst said “Our student-athletes did a tremendous job focusing this week with the changes in practice due to weather and it showed tonight, great win and great effort.” The Vikings take on Crockett at House Park next week for their Homecoming and district opener.
