Vikings News · Viking Baseball Wins AISD Tournament opener over G’Town Eastview 5-4

The Vikings finally enjoyed a day without rain and opened the AISD Invitational at Georgetown Eastview HS, taking on the Patriots in Game 1 of the 4 game event. After 2 scoreless innings the Viking bats came alive in a 5 hit 4 run 3rd inning. The Viking Defense was spotless on the day committing zero errors in the field, holding off advances by an Eastview team buoyed by a sellout crowd at their home park.

The Viking bats were alive pounding out ten hits and five runs over seven innings. Sophomore Zach Heimann and Luis Adame each racked up multiple hits for the Vikings. Zach Heimann led the team with three hits in four at bats.

Senior Ivan Pizano started the game for Viks and gave a gutsy performance over four innings, allowing four runs on four hits. Senior Pitcher Saul Mondragon threw two stellar innings in relief out of the bullpen. Junior Luis Adame sealed the win in the 7th inning, slamming the door with 3 strikeouts.

The story of this game was the dramatic finish. The game was tied at four with the Vikings batting in the top of the seventh when Luis Adame doubled off the right field wall with 2 outs.  Zach Heimann followed suit in the next at-bat with his own double down the left field line on a 1-2 count, plating what would become the game winning run.

The Viks are back in action today at Nelson Field, hope to see you at the ballpark!
