The Viking Football Team earned their first victory of the 2017 season with a 22-8 win over Eastside Memorial. The Viks played an early game at 5:00pm with the thermometer reading well into the 90’s and visual heat radiating from the turf at Nelson Field, but the Vikings were not deterred. Senior quarterback Matthew King had two TD from the air to senior wide receiver Tajik Bartholomew while junior running back Khile Shores racked up 128 yards on the ground. The presence of the Viking defense was looming all day. Senior defensive back Shyhiem White had 9.5 tackles while senior linebacker Daylin Hinton and Senior linebacker Melvin Garcia had 7. Sophomore linebacker Bryan Gonzalez forced a fumble and had 1 fumble recovery with 7 total tackles on the day while senior defensive linemen Marcos Heimann also had one fumble recovery. Included in the takeaways for the Vikings was an interception by junior cornerback Roy Williams. The Viks are off this week and will spend time on academics and preparing for Reagan.
