The Lanier Vikings and Travis Rebels traded the lead back-and-forth on Friday, but eventually the Vikings prevailed 8-7 in extra innings to remain in the race for the state playoffs!
Junior Luis Zayas started the game for Vikings on the mound. He threw four and two-thirds innings, surrendering 1 earned run. Saul Mondragon earned the win for Vikings in a gutsy relief appearance. Mondragon threw three and a third innings, allowing one run, two hits, and striking out four.
The Vikings offense came alive in the second half of the contest, plating five runs on six hits, 3 of which came off the bat of Freshman Zach Heimann including a clutch 2 RBI double late in the game to tie it in the bottom of the 7th inning sending the game into extra frames.
The Heimann Brothers each collected multiple hits for Vikings, Zach Heimann going 3-for-4 at the plate and leading the team with three runs batted in. The Vikings tore up the base paths with 10 steals, Marcos Heimann stealing 4.
The Vikings look toward a short week with a crucial two game series with Crockett. Game 1 of the series will be Tuesday at Northwest Field 5 PM.
