Happy Never Satisfied. That is the how most of the Lanier wrestlers and coaching staff felt after this weekend’s regional finals competition at the Delco Center. The Vikings wrestling team sent 15 wrestlers to the regional tournament with big goals and aspirations! Although the Vikings gave their best effort many of the Vikings came up just a bit short. The heartbreaking losses will serve as motivation for this young team going into next season.
Of the 15 regional qualifiers, 8 wrestlers made it to day 2 of the regional finals and 5 wrestlers made it to the blood round. The blood round is the round that determines if you qualify for state or not. Youth showed in the blood round, but the coaching staff remains proud of this young teams accomplishments this year! Coach Summerfield and Banda were in agreement, “11 of the 15 regional qualifiers were first year wrestlers. Most of which have only been wrestling for 5 months. The progress this team made over the season is outstanding and one to be proud of. The lady vikings finished 7th in the region overall. A great showing for this young group. The coaching staff is excited about the future!”

Selena heads into state as a 1 seed and great position heading into the state tournament. This is Selena’s second trip to the State Finals. Last year she was happy to be there. This year she dreams of Gold!

Bella won each of her matches by pin and showed true grit battling through the consolation bracket this weekend. This is Bella’s first trip to the State tournament. When asked about going to state Isabella said, “I am going to place! Not just make an appearance!”
