Coed Junior Varsity Wrestling, Coed Varsity Wrestling · Vikings Show Depth!

This past weekend the Lanier Wrestling Team (boys and girls varsity) headed to the Delco Center once more for a clash of central and southern Texas teams. The boys participated in a dual tournament and the girls wrestled in an individual tournament.

The Lady Vikings stepped up big this weekend and showed how much depth the girls team truly has. With four starters out this weekend for state testing, injuries, and family emergencies, the Lady Viking still went to battle. Several back ups stepped up big and helped the short staffed Lady Vikings finish 2nd Overall!

Isabella Llamas continued her stellar junior season finishing the day 3-0  (26-6 season) and winning the 95 lbs. weight class. Eboni Washington, typically a back-up to her older sister stepped up big at 119 lbs. She went 2-2 on the day and took home a 4th place finish. Jasmine Byson (128 lbs.) went 3-1 on the day and secured her first medal of the season finishing 3rd! Angie Miranda (138 lbs) dominated her competition finishing all of her matches with pins and secured her first championship of the season!

Leilah Jiminez, Maryjane Guerra, Kyara Zacaraias, all also picked up key wins and showed the teams depth. All of the girls contributed to the teams 2nd place finish!

The boys went to battle this weekend in a series of round table matches. Senior Captain Maykel Naranjo lead the way for the boys avenging two of his earlier losses this season. Maykel is now 20-5 on the season and is looking better each week!

Senior Adolfo Soto also had a big weekend finishing 3-1 on the day. Soto an on and off again starter, stepped in and showed he has earned a right to remain a starter for the boys team.

Nixon Ochoa, Khile Shores, Alejandro Soto, and Roderick Ellison, also all picked up wins this weekend.

This  boys team dual record is now 5-4-1 on the season.

With only three dual matches remaining before District Finals, the Vikings program is gearing up for a big post season push!
