After many weather delays, the Lanier tennis team traveled to Del Valle to play in the Eastside tournament last Thursdasy. This was the last tournament for many of our seniors and they proved that Lanier tennis is viking strong. Lanier finished the tournament with all but one team playing a placement match in the main or consolation draw.
Cynthia Morales and Ida Hansen ended up having to play each other in the finals. Cynthia Morales ended up with a victory over Hansen (6-4).
The all district duo of Ashley Luna-Berrones and Ricardo Martinez won the mixed doubles bracket and played the final match against Crockett High School.
Seniors, Rodrigo Paquot and Miguel Tererro, decided to forgo one last chance and singles and pair up as a boys doubles team. They were down 0-5 in the final match against Crockett and came back, but were unable to clench the overall win, loosing to Crockett 5-7.The boys took 2nd overall in the tournament.
Victory Montoya lost his first match, but didn’t let that stop him. He pushed through and ended up winning boys singles consolation.
Lanier’s other mixed doubles team , Sandy Romero and Eric Palamores, played for first place in mixed consolation bracket, but ended up loosing to Travis High School. The number two boys doubles team played in the final consolation match. Giovanni Moreno played Elgin for a third place finish in the tournament for the boys singles bracket.
