The 2016 Boys Soccer season will officially kick off on December 30th at 10 am at the Lanier Field with the 2nd annual Lanier Alumni Game. The current Vikings squad had an excellent preseason bolstered with the confidence of returning 14 players with Varsity experience. Senior leaders Joe Martinez, Edy Ramirez, and Daniel Woldegebreal will hope to build on the their strong performances last year.
The Vikings will be opposed by a very strong alumni squad expected to turn up for the game. Assistant Coach Ramiro Gonzalez will lead the alumni side, and he has publicly guaranteed victory for the team of recent graduates, stating that “if I have to put the ball in the net myself, I will.” His eligibility to play in the match is still being reviewed by UIL.
Class of 2015 graduates Christian Curiel, Ervin Orantes, and Erick Villalba also appeared confident after scouting a recent Vikings training session. Whatever game plan they have devised though will surely involve the incombustible Edvin Mus (2015) in his trademark role as a rampaging right back.
A large crowd is expected with free admission and post game meal details to follow.
