This weekend the Lanier Wrestlers went to battle in San Antonio Texas at the Rough Rider Invitational. All three levels (JV, Varsity Boys, and Girls) attended this weekends event. The Rough Rider was packed with great competition, 37 teams in all, from Austin, San Antonio, New Bruenfuls, Corpus Cristi and Houston.
At the JV level the boys wrestled tough. Adolfo Soto and Alejandro Soto brought home a pair of bronze medals. Khile Shores and Jesus Sierra also competed tough and earned some much needed experience.
The Varsity Boys wrestled tough and each wrestler left their best efforts on the mat. Maykel Naranjo lead the boys finishing 3-2 on the day and finishing 5th. Samuel Diaz and Elijah Solano also picked up a pair of wins at the tournament and finished in the top 8. The boys continue to improve and developed through each competition.
The Varsity Girls continued their winning streak. Selena Cordell lead the ladies finishing 2nd at the Rough Rider and improved her record to 17-2. Isabella Llamos also placed 3rd and avenged her only loss of the day in her third place match. Jamaria Washington, Jasmine Byson and Angie Miranda also wrestled tough all finishing in the top 6! The lady vikings finished 8th out of 37 teams. Great showing, but the girls will come back hungry as they wanted another top 3 finish. Previously the Lady Vikings finished top 2 at the Capitol Classic and Burger Invitational.
The Vikings hope to rebound to former greatness next weekend as the Vikings head to a difficult Golf Coast Duels Tournament!
Thank you Viking Nation for your continued support!
